Project - "Making a Blanket Chest using the New Jessem router table and the Akeda Dovetail Jig"

We put the top aside for a bit. Beth stains just the top couple of inches of the inside walls. She is using a walnut gel stain that we will use for the final finishing. At this point, we just want to have a bit stained so that any pine showing behind the aromatic cedar will not show.

Beth starts the adding of the aromatic cedar by cutting one piece to the inside length minus 1/8".

She has made great progress. The strips of cedar are all tongue and grooved which helps. She uses only an occasional 3/4" brad. She has also ripped the cedar that is at the bottom. By doing a dry fit, she has figured out what she needs at the bottom to give her a top piece that is about 1/4" too wide.

To trim away the cedar that is proud, Beth has installed a trim cutter with a top mounted bearing.

This close-up shows it better. The bearing (arrow) guide along the chest top and trims the cedar flush with the pine case.

Beth trims the one side she has just completed.

She checks the trim. Now three sides and a bottom to  do. I will do that during the week. Beth is off to a Super Bowl Party.
Next week we will stain and finish and attach the top. The end is near.
