Project - "Making a Blanket Chest using the New Jessem router table and the Akeda Dovetail Jig"

This is not as fun a day as the ones so far. Beth was introduced to the necessity of sanding — lots of sanding. She uses the belt sander to start the task. Even though she has connected it to the Festool Vacuum, a lot of dust gets away.

Once the heavy duty sanding was done, Beth gladly switched to the Festool 150 Rotex. Connected to the vacuum, this unit shows no signs of dust — it is amazing.

Beth works though the grits to 120, and she starts to appreciate the tight dovetails that she did with the Akeda Jig.

I explained to Beth that we could round over some of the edges with a router, but that a few minutes with a block plane and a piece of sandpaper will give us a more "craftsman's" look. She said: "You mean craftsperson?"

I gave her a rounded rasp to turn the bottom edges.

Next, Beth tries the glued up top. I hate to say it, but it is going to take some sanding to even out. One of the boards was cupping, and I think we did as good a job clamping as we could, but we (I) will have to spend time during the week getting it flat enough to be the top. So next week we will try to finish this blanket chest.
