There is nothing like cutting wood and trying such a device. I started with 90o and a square box. The final corner came together exactly right. So I proceeded to a five and then six sided box...just to see if it would give the same results.
In this picture I have laid the 6 sides on masking tape and am "rolling up" the box. So far so good.

You can't really see from this distant view, but let me tell you, each corner was tight and ready for gluing without any fine tuning.

These are my first results. A 4, 5, and 6 sided box. All have tight fitting corners. I was going to cut all the boxes shown on the Incra Miter Gauge chart...up to 20 sides...but stopped here. It was obvious that the accuracy of the gauge is right on, and I didn't want to waste any more wood.

This is the reason for the accuracy. The Incra Miter Gauge is a very precision tool. Place the indexing lever into a degree mark and you have that angle...no ifs, ands or buts.

There is an adjustment so that you can adjust to other than full degrees. But for the one half-degree angle that you will need (221/2), Incra has machined that angle into the gauge. They have thought of everything.

The Incra Miter Gauge can also be used in the right miter slot. The angle index swings around with just a few screw adjustments.

I use a couple of bicycle holding hooks keep the miter gauge safe and ready to use. The Incra Miter Gauge is a good addition to the shop.

While it is fun to cut plain stock to test the accuracy of this device, the real purpose is in making great things from wood.
Pictured here is the start of a project that is made possible by the Incra Miter Gauge. It is a 6 sided box made from standard pine crown molding that has been wrapped with walnut veneer. That process is described by Darryl Kiel of Vacuum Pressing Systems and is in another section on this site (GoThere).
Bethany and I have been doing some of this and will report on it in the next few weeks. Just think of the great veneers you can get...and what you can make from them.
