We now have our hinge blanks. The inset from the instruction book tells us the exact dimensions that we should have.
The next step is to cut the hinge portions.

The next step is to center the jig on a "centering block" which we cut at the beginning as is the exact width of the hinge pieces.
The centering process is the exact same method we learned in earlier working with the Incra Jig.

With the trial center cuts made, Bethany can sight down and use the fine tune adjustment until she centers the bit. Once centered, she inserts template BoxG and position 10A. [Note: the hinge instruction sheet calls for "Box1" which is no longer made.]

And she carefully adjusts the router bit height to make a 3/16" depth of cut.

The push block that we have been using is now inverted and will be used to hold the hinge parts. Bethany marks one end for the "A-cuts" and the other end for the "B-cuts."

Bethany uses a wood clamp to hold the hinge leaf on the end of the push block. The inset sketch shows how the leaf end of the clamp is raised to clear the router bit.

Bethany now sets the Incra Stop so that cut is made no greater than 3/4" into the push block.

Using the Box G template, she makes the A cuts at 9A, 10A and 11A.

She reverses the stop block and clamps the mating hinge leaf to the B side. She makes cuts 10B and 11B.

Using a simple jig to hold the hinge drilling block, Bethany clamps one of the leaves in place.

Using a 1/8" drill, she carefully uses the guide block and drills out the hinge hole. She does this on both parts.

After inserting a 1/8" pin (from a brazing rod), Bethany tests her first hinge. It's a beaut. Now to finish the others. The instructions are written to use one 4" X 5" piece of wood and to do 4 leaves at one time—giving two finished hinges.
After completing this set, we both agreed that it would be easier to make a dozen or so pair of hinges at one time and keep them completed and ready for other projects.

With the hinges done, we are ready to finish off the rest of the jewelry box.

Having mastered the making of the hinges, I showed Bethany the business card holders that are also in the project book. She was instantly excited to try...and we will, after we finish the jewelry box. They are handsome, aren't they?
