Project   —  "Solid Mahogany Vanity Top"

Marieanne inserts a new plastic zero-clearance plate. She manually inserts it until it is almost touching the blade. Then she turns the saw on and taps the plastic the rest of the way. The blade cuts its own zero-clearance slot — a very neat system that works well.

With the Festool Trion 300 Jigsaw attached to the dust extraction hose, she can keep the blade area relatively free from sawdust, allowing her to see where she is going. This is the "final cut" so she takes her time a stays exactly on the line.

With only a few inches to go, you can see how smooth and chip-out free her cut is. And she is following the line so very well.

If she looks proud, she should. The mahogany top fits the sink mount exactly. With a little edge smoothing and then rounding over, this portion of the vanity top is done.

Back in the shop, she places our template back on the top and tapes it in place.

At the router table, she adjusts the router height until the pattern bearing rest firmly on the MDF pattern.

There is very little to remove in this operation. She  goes slow and lets the router and the pattern bearing bit do the work.

She has removed the insert plate with the router and has replaced it with an insert plate with the Porter Cable portable spindle sander mounted. She carefully smoothes out the edge.

She is preparing to cut the 1 1/2" pieces that will be folded under to give the top the thicker wood look.

On the inside corners, she will have to cut in at a 45o cut. On the outside corner, there is less urgency. The two pieces can be cut at 45o after the pieces are ripped and in place.
