Project — "Making a Silver Chest"

All the edges are jointed and fitting well. Andrea makes one more check of the grain patterns.

I get the silver insert out and have her check my measurements. This is the last time we can make changes to the case plans. The inside dimension must be very exact.

It is time to figure out which is which. The two boards to the left will be the front and right side. The two that she is working on will be the back and left side.  They will appear to be wrapped around.

She adjusts the boards a bit to make the grain match better. Notice that the ends of the boards are offset by about 2 inches. This is how much the board to board grain is "off." The reason for that is that we had to thickness plane some of the wood away and that makes a perfect match off a little.
Next week, we will glue up these panels and cut them to length with mitered ends.
A question for you: this is 1/2" stock and the mitered ends will look good but what can we do to give it strength? Email me any ideas you have, please. Email
