It's not Elena. It is Per Swenson
a real fine furniture maker and contractor. He has been working hard
for months on a project that is just one picture after the other of
wonderful wood works. His 82 year old father is Per's right hand man. It is
hard to know which one is the better since what we see is the product of
both and what they do in wood zings.
So it was no surprise to me that Per and father, Bob, got one of
the first Domino Joiners to hit our shores. It also didn't surprise me that
Per was able to use it "right out of the box."
"We were at the point of gluing on the front and back rail of a 30
ft bar. In the past we would be splicing length together with scarf joints
that took a lot of time", Per says. "If the Domino could make the splice and
a seemingly invisible one, that one day alone could pay for the whole
setup."

He assembles some MDF support pieces.

And eases the sections together in exact
alignment. "When your very first Domino Joints are so accurate and
fast, it promises to be a good day," says Per.

This photo shows the bar build up that
Per and the Domino are doing.

His father Bob is using the Festool
OF1400 router in a shop built jig to flute the column shown in the next

Have you ever seen such fantastic work?
One view after another.
|
Have you ever seen such a great use for
Birdseye maple.

If you have followed the progress of
this job, you would be impressed by Per's keeping a very organized and
cleaned jobsite...which he attributes to the Festool Dust Extraction system.
It's a matter of the chicken or the egg — the Festool vacuum and boom arm
does make it easier.

A celebration of the beauty of wood. You
can only hope that the many people who enjoy the bar will fully appreciate
the magnificence of it all.
