He did a good job at setting the flats "out of square."

He
explains that when in the past he installed crown molding, he would take the
measurement and then divide the angle in two and then set the miter saw to that
degree. It sounds easy, he says, but it leaves a lot of room for errors.

In place
of a digital angle measuring device, they will use the MiterFast jig that is a part of the
Kapex system. It is stored in the base of the Kapex unit.

Elena how he simply spreads the two legs until they touch the corner walls and uses the
thumb wheel to lock the angle,

Elena tries her luck at it. It is very easy.

She then
places the tool on the Kapex base and uses her left hand to hold one of the legs firmly
against the fence and then, with the other, she can move the miter carriage until the
laser line surrounds the single black line of the device.

I have
added the red lines since the real laser lines are faint when photographed. But, Elena can
clearly see the two laser lines and align the miter base so that the black line of the
MiterFast is surrounded equally by the laser lines — a very easy way to match the
miter angle exactly.

ahead a couple of frames, and Elena is now tacking in place the mating piece of the
molding. This is the moment she can see how she did. What do you think? That is one tight
crown miter and she did it without measuring the exact angle, other than with her Kapex
