The plastic CD
holder devices have come in, and I can now create the box that will contain them. The
catalog listed the specifications, but I want to measure exactly.

 |
This is clearly the time for
"Measure twice, cut once." I want to leave about 1/8" gap so that CD's can
be inserted smoothly, but not so much that they will fall out of the grooves.
|
I plan to have two 12
1/2" high units stacked on top of each other with a 1/2" divider in between.
This will make up one column. There will be two columns for a total of four of these
racks. I am measuring for the height of the cabinet.

I plan to use only the
Festool equipment for making the case unit. Here, I have laid a piece of 1/2" birch
ply on the work table and am measuring where the Festool guide should be positioned. I
have set the adjustable square for the 6 1/2" I need and simply use it along the
length of the guide to give me an accurate rip dimension.
|
I am using
1/2" ply for two reasons. First, it has the strength for these small boxes.
Second, they will look great once they are painted black. I think this will cause the wood
panel doors to really "pop out."
I use one clamp to secure the piece to the table. I have also used the guide
rail clamps to secure the guide to the board.

 |
 |
I have zeroed
the saw blade to the board and am now setting the plunge stop so that the blade will just
pass through the ply.
|
I now make the
rip cut. Since the guide rail is in control of the saw, it is easy for me to position
myself where I can access the saw most easily.
I rip several of these lengths.
