Two Blade Tenon Making

This is the final sample. The tenon is exactly the thickness to fit snugly in the 3/8" mortise. Rather than to record the shims and spacers in the package, I will simply keep them together so that whenever I want to make 3/8" tenons, I can do so without any trial and error cut making. It probably took 12 minutes this time; next time it will take no time at all.

To this point, I have been using the throat plate that is for the dado set. It works fine but I really want to have a zero-clearance plate just for the 3/8" tenon setup.

And I make it. I like the tightness of a custom zero-clearance plate. Chips will not get through the cracks here.

Now that is a nice way to cut tenons. In the past I would have made my shoulder cuts first. With the two blade setup, I make these cuts first and then the shoulder cuts. That prevents the piece between the blade and the jig from being kicked back.

It's a great mortise and tenon joint, and what is most important to me is that I can replicate this tight joint without any trial and error. I like that idea.

My spacer package. custom zero-clearance throat plate and 2 dado blades are stored ready to go. This was a very simple thing to do but one of those things that can save a lot of time, headaches and waste in the future.
